Joseph R.  Falcone Sr.
Joseph R. Falcone, Sr., 98, of DeWitt passed away peacefully on Saturday. Born in Syracuse in 1919, he was the son of the late Rosario and Innocenza (Matteo) Falcone.

He attended North High School in Syracuse. In 1939 he moved to Coral Gables, FL and worked in a pharmacy. In 1942 he married the love of his life Haze Falcone of Eastwood. In 1943 during WWII he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and attended Casey Jones School of Aeronautics for training. He then served as a Tech Sergeant Crew Chief on P-38 aircraft and was stationed at the Metro Airport in Van Nuys, CA. After the war he returned to Syracuse and worked numerous jobs, including working two months free for Saunders Co. to gain the experience needed to be hired for road construction jobs; he helped build Rt. 20. He worked at O.M. Edwards, opened the first gift shop at Hancock Airport, opened Knobby’s Magic & Novelty Store on James St. and then started Syracuse Plastics in 1953 in the corner of the basement of the Alhambra Building on James Street. He then moved the business to Fayetteville in 1960.

He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in DeWitt where he served as an usher for many years. He was a charter member of the Cavalry Club, where he enjoyed golf and pitch. He was the founder of Syracuse Oil and Gas Investment Club. He loved his time with family, camp at Lake of the Pines in the Adirondacks, fishing trips to Wolfe Island Canada and thoroughbred horse racing. He and his wife also enjoyed vacationing for more than 40 years in Ogunquit, Maine.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Hazel “Haze” Falcone in 2012; sister, Mattia Armstrong; and brother, Dr. William R. Falcone. He is survived by his children, Tom Falcone of North Carolina, Jim (Trudy) Falcone of Manlius and Joe Jr. (Kathy) Falcone of Manlius; grandchildren, Todd Falcone of Manlius, Kim (Jay) Sousa of Andover, MA, Nicole (Julian) Halpern of South Hadley, MA, Adam (Stephanie) Falcone of Manlius, and Margaret and Joseph R. Falcone III both of Manlius; great-grandchildren, Thomas Falcone, Alex Falcone, Farah Sousa, Taylor Sousa, Hannah Halpern and Annie Falcone; sister, Marie McCarthy of Camillus, Johnny Orzino of Canastota; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday at Holy Cross Church, 4101 E. Genesee St., DeWitt. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
