It's strange but fitting that while looking at the obituaries today, I grew up in Syracuse but am now in Raleigh, NC, I immediately recognized Kathy Grammet's name and how I connected to her because of the impression she made on me when I was a student teacher at Lakeshore Elementary School 27 years ago. She was the principal then and I was a rookie Syracuse Firefighter finishing up my teaching degree. The reason I remember her so well is because she was a principal any teacher would be grateful to work for, kind, approachable and willing to go out of her way to make a positive impression on a "student" teacher who was just passing through. For me to remember her from just that short time ( I never saw her again after my student teaching) is a testament to the influence educators can have on not only students but people who work for them.
“A teacher affects eternity; she can never tell where her influence stops.”
― Henry Adams
I am definitely a better person for having known her. I now teach in NC after retiring from SFD.
