Obituary for William F. Harrington

William F. Harrington, 57, of Bridgeport, died on June 4 after a courageous two-year battle with leukemia. Born in Syracuse to Duane and Louise, Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Leigh Ann VanSanford (Jamie); son, Nicholas; stepson, Joshua Bennington; stepson, Michael Stevens (Yumi); sister, Margaret Peterson (Tim Maier); a brother, Michael (Mary); extended family and many dear friends. An unexpected gift during Bill’s illness was treasured time to build and strengthen these relationships. With the help and support of family, friends, and his trusted medical team, Bill was able to face each new challenge with determination and resolve.
Bill was a graduate of Chittenango High School. He was an accomplished certified welder/fabricator for 30 years. He later drove bus for the F-M School District, and then became a heavy equipment operator for Montroy Development. Bill served as a volunteer fireman for many years. He was also passionate about hunting and motor sports, including drag and dirt track racing.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, June 8, at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel (7191 E. Genesee, Fayetteville, NY). A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church (5299 Jamesville Rd, DeWitt, NY) at 3pm on Tuesday, June 9.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the 3-2 Oncology Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital (301 Prospect Ave, 13203) or the DeWitt Fire Department (4500 E. Genesee St, 13214).
