As a young adult, I suffered greatly from allergies for which the treatment was a series of injections. There was a strict discipline required to encourage my immune system to let me live in harmony with trees, grass, cats and dogs etc etc. Discipline was not my strong point at twenty something and I frequently failed to get my shots on time. And so, I found myself spending lots of time at Elm Street.
Each shot was followed by strict instructions to sit in the waiting room for thirty minutes. "You might have a reaction! " Well, I never did and after a coiuple of years I posed the question. "Doctor John, do I still have to wait. Can't I leave early?" He looked up and said "I'll make a deal. You can leave early but you have to promise me something. - If you have a reaction just make it look like you were coming into the office not out."
I've told that story often and it stills makes me laugh. I will miss you Dotor John. Thanks for so many, many years of care and caring.
