Obituary for Lawrence Harvey Wishart

Lawrence Harvey Wishart, 99, of Fayetteville, NY, passed away in his home on Tuesday, June 14. Larry was born on May 5, 1917 on the family farm in Westmoreland, NY.  He had a modest upbringing in a time when there was no indoor plumbing or electricity.  He had a very industrious personality and used this to wire the family home for electricity and create a root cellar (right under the living quarters) in his childhood home with sticks of dynamite at age 19 with his 10 year old brother as an assistant.
Larry met his loving wife Leona in 1943 just prior to serving in the Army during WW II in the Japan occupation.  They were married June 1, 1946.  After serving in the military, Larry went onto a career as an Industrial Engineer at Carrier Corporation before branching out to his own Industrial Engineering firm.
Larry and Leona moved to Fayetteville in 1960 where they raised their five children.  During most of Larry's life he was pampered by Leona, but in her final years Larry dutifully took care of Leona until her death in 2013.
Larry loved family gatherings during which time the family often had quite comical card games.
As young children, 2 of their grandchildren, Kristen and Mikayla, were well cared for by their Grandpa and Grandma. The favor was returned, as Kristen and Mikayla were a very large part of caring for their grandparents in their final years.
Larry is predeceased by his wife of 67 years Leona (Corr), his sister Pearl (Bushart) and his brother George.  He is survived by five children; Wayne, Warren (Ines), Wendy (Mike) Luft, Bill (Leesa), Linda and eight grandchildren; Billy, Chris, Santi, Ben, Greg, Meghan, Kristen and Mikayla.
We also want to recognize CNY Hospice and Dr. Ali, the Red Team and the 7th Floor Team at the Veteran’s Hospital for the great care they gave Larry. The family asks that, instead of flowers, you consider a donation to one of these organizations.
Funeral Services will be 10 am Saturday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel. Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Friday at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. Burial will be in Westmoreland Cemetery.
