Obituary for Robert W. Heaps

Robert William Heaps, 90, of Minoa, passed away Wednesday at Manatee Memorial Hospital of Bradenton, Florida. Born May 28, 1926 in Ilion, NY, he was the son of Adelbert and Lena Heaps. Bob graduated from Morrisville State College and served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked for the US Post Office for 30 years, serving for 12 years as the Postmaster of Minoa. Bob was a member of the Minoa United Methodist Church, member and past president of the Lion’s Club, a Boy Scout leader, Little League coach and a member of the Moose Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, coin & stamp collecting, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ida Nelbach.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Marian A. Cornish Heaps; daughters, Alisa Ann (John) Lapide of Bradenton, FL; granddaughter, Patricia Lapide (Jeffrey) Oesterle and great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Lawrence, 5, Benjamin William, 3, and Autumn Rose, 11 months, all of Hamilton, NJ; granddaughter, Marian Lapide (Peter Izzo) of New York, NY; son, Robert William II of Green Cove Springs, FL; daughter, Holly Jean (Scott) Schuss and grandchildren, Alexander Joseph Robert, 14 and Ashlynne Marie Elizabeth, 7, all of East Syracuse, NY.
Family and friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, August 22nd at the R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepp’s Corners Road, Minoa. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:00 am at the Minoa United Methodist Church, 250 East Ave., Minoa. Burial with military honors will be in the Minoa Methodist Cemetery. Guests are invited to join the family at the Minoa United Methodist Church for a luncheon immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made in his memory to the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org)
